    Why is the Pokémon GO Fest taking place in Dortmund?

    The city of Dortmund is known for its hospitality far beyond Germany’s borders.     Will the Westfalenpark be opened to visitors who are not attending Pokémon GO Fest?

    No. The Pokémon GO Fest is an entry-restricted event. The entrance to the Westfalenpark including the participation in the event requires a previously purchased ticket.

    Will the event take place even if the weather is bad (rain, storm, hail, snow)?

    The event will take place in rain or shine. It is recommended that you wear clothing suitable for the respective weather conditions. There will be no refund or compensation due to bad weather. In cases of extreme weather, participants will be informed through loudspeaker announcements. Instructions given by security and service staff must be followed at all times. The event rules and regulations apply.

    In total there are five entrances to the park. Please follow the signs and go directly to the entrance mentioned in the confirmation e-mail or on the in-app ticket (see color code).     By car: Coming from the A40 / B54, please use the parking spaces around the Westfalenpark and the Westfalenhallen (subject to a charge). Please follow the parking guidance system, there are sufficient parking spaces available. From the parking lots please follow the existing signs “Westfalenpark”. The colour-coded entrances are sign-posted in the direct vicinity of the park. Please follow the colour on your ticket for the Ruhrallee entrance.     By underground train: The closest underground station is „Westfalenpark U“. The tram stops U45 and U49 stop here, both lines connect the main station with the Westfalenpark. For the Hörde entrance, please follow the colour on your ticket. The Hörde entrance can only be reached on foot. Please note that the walking distance can be quite long. If you are coming from Schwerte (A1/B236), you can also use the parking lots around the Phoenix See or on Phoenix West and from there follow the footpath along the Emscher. You can also reach the Hörde entrance from the large parking lots between Westfalenpark and Westfalenhallen. Follow the signs to the entrance Buschmühle, shortly before the entrance there is a footpath around the park to the entrance Hörde. The entrance is of course also signposted from there.     Unlike previous Pokémon GO events, this year you will need to sign up for the ticket draw for the chance to get up to 4 tickets in total. We are using this approach to give all trainers who would like to take part in the event a fair chance at receiving a ticket, as the total number of tickets is limited.

    Every attendee needs to have a valid ticket to enter the park and interact with the Pokémon GO Fest in-game activities. Each ticketed adult can be accompanied by one (1) child under the age of 10.

    When does my Pokémon GO experience start?

    To get started with your Pokémon GO Fest experience, simply go to the Westfalenpark entrance highlighted in the confirmation email or on the in-app ticket (see the color code), on the day and time stated on your purchased ticket. Ticket holders can only attend the event on this one day. Trainers who do not have a valid ticket cannot see or interact with Pokémon in the park.

    How do I get to Westfalenpark?

    The Westfalenpark is close to the city center as well as the Westfalenhallen and Signal Iduna Park. The park is easily accessible on foot from the central station.

    Those arriving by car may park at one of the numerous paid parking lots around the park. The address for your GPS device is: An der Buschmühle 1, 44139 Dortmund. Please then follow the signs to the parking lots.

    Can I leave the park and come back in?

    All participants can enter and leave the event area at any time during the opening hours. Upon re-entry, you must present the wristband obtained when entering for the first time. Upon entering the park, you will have to undergo another screening and bag inspection. In the case of a violation of the event rules, re-entry is prohibited.

    How can I make sure, as a visitor from outside the European Union, that there are no issues with my mobile data connection at the event?

    For the best possible gameplay experience at Pokémon GO Fest 2019, we recommend international attendees to purchase SIM cards with coverage provided by Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone or Telefonica. While your non-EU carrier may be able to provide international data roaming in the EU, the speed and reliability of service may be slower compared to the service provided by German cell phone carriers. The three major carriers (Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefonica) will be selling SIM cards in Dortmund’s city-center. Please note: Shops are closed on Sundays.

    How can I get to Dortmund?

    Dortmund is easy to reach from all directions. Düsseldorf Airport can be reached in under 1 hour, and Cologne/Bonn Airport is less than 1.5 hours away. Berlin is only 3 hours away by train and Frankfurt is 2 hours away from the metropolitan area. In the area surrounding Dortmund there are more than 50 cities and communities that belong to the Ruhr metropolis and have an excellent connection to the city center of Dortmund.

    By car:

    Dortmund is surrounded by numerous major highways and is easily accessible from all directions.

    From the north:

    Take the A1 from Hamburg to the junction Dortmund/Unna, then the A44/B1 towards Dortmund-Innenstadt. Alternatively via the A2 coming from Hannover.

    From the east:

    Coming from the direction of Kassel via the A44

    From the south:

    Via the A1 from Cologne, the A45 from Gießen or via the A3/A40 from Frankfurt

    From the west:

    Coming from the direction of Duisburg via the A40 or via the A42 coming from Oberhausen.

     

    By plane:

    Dortmund has its own airport.

    For participants arriving from further afield, transit via one of the following airports is recommended:

    From all these airports there are direct Deutsche Bahn train connections to the venue in Dortmund.

    By train:

    Dortmund central station is located in the middle of the city. From there, the Westfalenpark is accessible either on foot or by public transport. The Deutsche Bahn lets you easily reach all surrounding cities as well as all other destinations within Germany. Information about the station

    Entrance to the park is accessible at all entrances, as are most of the paths in the park. However, there are some side paths that are not accessible and e.g. have stairs . The essential and large park routes as well as access to all event elements are easily accessible.

    Yes, you can bring one bag or backpack per person. However, the bag must not exceed the size of a DIN A3 sheet of paper. Your bag will be inspected when you enter the park. The event rules and regulations apply.

    What can I do if I need help or feel unsafe?

    Do you need help? Are you lost? Our service staff is spread throughout the park and will be happy to assist you at any time.
    The Red Cross is on site for medical emergencies.

    I have impairments and need an accompanying person. Will they be able to enter the park without a ticket?

    Accompanying persons of event participants with disabilities are granted unrestricted access to the park provided that the severely disabled person’s pass bears this in addition (accompanying person). The pass must be presented to the security personnel at the entrances without being requested to do so. Please note that admission can only be granted if the above conditions are met. Please follow the signs with your accompanying person and go directly to the entrance mentioned in the confirmation e-mail or on the ticket (please note the colour). Please note that you and your companion can only enter the park at this entrance. The entrances will be individually assigned, are different and will help you to have the best possible gaming experience. An overview of the entrances can be found here. Please note: all entrances to the park are barrier-free.

    I need regular medication, may I take this into the grounds?

    A guest who needs insulin may bring along their medically necessary materials and medication, as long as he provides that all medications have a medical certificate from his doctor in English or German. Out of concern for the event staff who take care of the garbage disposal, guests are expected to properly dispose of medical waste and syringes at the booth of the German Red Cross. Please do not dispose of these items in other garbage cans on the event site.

    Are there gyms and raid battles during the event?

    In order to offer the best possible gaming experience to all players within the Westfalenpark and the surrounding area, there will be no raid battles within the park or in the immediate vicinity. Gyms and raid battles are still active in the wider Dortmund city area.
